Vision/s

My recent works delve into the complex relationship between human vision and representation, as elucidated by modern science. Human vision is not a mere replica of reality, but rather a construct shaped by limitations of visual perception and interpretation by the brain. Drawing upon references such as the theory of Platonic forms, Islamic geometry, and modern scientific insights on vision, my artworks challenge the notion of vision as purely objective.

To create my drawings, I utilize geometric forms such as points, lines, and circles. Inspired by Islamic geometry, I divide circles into equal parts and arrange them in various orders to create intricate patterns and compositions. These dynamic and symmetrical arrangements invite viewers to explore and interpret what they see, evoking a range of responses and highlighting the subjective nature of human vision.

In islamic geometry there is an emphasis on using the circle as the main component. An ideal form that has no beginning and no end and the area of a circle can never be known exactly as it is always an approximation. A circle is elusive and concrete at the same time.

Our perception is shaped by factors such as the physiology of the eye, evolutionary biases, brain processing, and past experiences, leading to the inherent subjectivity of human perception. Evolution has equipped the eye to see and interpret the patterns that helped in the survival. Human vision can only perceive certain wavelengths of light. The data that is out there can not be mirrored within a being as it would be too much information. By incorporating these scientific insights, my artworks challenge viewers to reevaluate their perception of reality and contemplate the complexities of human vision.

At the heart of my artistic exploration lies the theory of Platonic forms, which posits that abstract, universal concepts exist as the true reality underlying appearances. Utilizing geometric forms such as points, lines, and circles, my artworks evoke a sense of purity and abstraction, inviting viewers to contemplate the essence of reality beyond surface appearances. Through this lens, my artworks challenge the conventional understanding of vision as a direct representation of reality and encourage viewers to contemplate the possibility of a deeper, more abstract truth that lies beyond our subjective interpretations.
